The Kerb stones on either side of the road between two sections of Withywood Park on Huntingham Road

Reported via mobile in the Pavements category anonymously at 08:38, Thu 25 July 2024

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6273133.

The kerb stones on either side of Huntingham Road where the Withywood Park entrances meet is not a drop kerb and should have been put in as a drop kerb originally and has never been repaired/ replaced for some reason. This means anyone using the park with a disability like 3 members of the Friends of Withywood Park who have disabilities and live locally to the park trying to access the southern section of the park cannot access the second section of Withywood park between Huntingham Road to Four Acres without needing assistance from other members of the group or members public! Which takes away their independence that their wheelchairs, wheel bikes or mobility scooters, without either having to negotiate trying to go up a very steep section of Huntingham Road past Keeble Avenue, and traversing uphill and then cross the road on the hill and a giant the camber of the road try to then turn back down the hill, or about 50 yards round onto Paybridge Road to cross the road on a bend and then travel the 50 yards back as well niether of which is safe or acceptable. This is also affects numerous mums useinf the park or Traveling through the park on schools runs everyday wiht buggies, or young kids learning how to use bikes in the park uainf the paths having to bump the buggy up the kerb or get off their bikes to cross the road. This has also affected the old people in Waverley Gardens, Brunnel Spinny Croft, and the other local old peoples home on Bear Bridge Road have all complained to me a member of the Friends of Withywood Park on a regular basis. This is stopping older people from all 3 old Peoples homes from accessing sections of the park as they are unable to cross the road. This is the only kerb in Hartcliffe and Withywood and even Bristol I or anyone else I have spoken to via the Parks Forum where two sections of a bristol park meet where there isn’t a drop kerb either side of the road to allow easy access for disabled users. Not only this multiple of these residents have said they are unable to access the local, closest and what should be most accesiable bus stop on Four Acres by the Morrisons Daily Store/ shops but due to these non drop kerbs it’s not accesiable meaning they are stuck at their own homes or one section of the park without having someone to help or assist them. This is disgusting and should be sorted immediately. It’s robbing disabled and older people of their independence and is either giving them the option of trying to go up the steep Huntingham Road, or having to go around Keeble Avenue and then up King Georges (again a steep hill) or having to go out round queens road upto and then along part of Bishport avenue or round to parts of fur acres from queens road all of which add hundreds of yards and meters to each end of their journeys making the journeys much more taxing and often not having the ability to do this due to their disabilities. This needs fixing.
