Mobile speed camera raking in money A52 Clifton Bvd
Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 19:59, Sun 26 April 2015
Sent to Nottingham City Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 626686.
The new camera van position is at the edge of the railway bridge A52 Clifton Bvd is targeting drivers in the 40 limit within 250 metres of the 50 limit. This camera van operated well inside the 40 limit near the QMC hospital rear entrance. There it caught 4800 drivers in one year 2013-2014 that were fined this did not include those who were eligible to go on 'the course'. It is understood that the new position will generate more prosecutions. Many experts in the field of safety say the limit has not been set correctly the same as the 40 limit on the A610. The 40 mph speed limit signs do not comply with UK legislation and are inadequate.....

I think it is fair to say this camera van has nothing to do with safety. It is now without argument positioned strategically as a money maker. It is almost positioned literally at the point where the limit changes from 40mph to 50mph and is not enforcing that 40mph is adhered to prior to the limit change (which in the interest of safety is where it should be). I can also see drivers coming into Nottingham slamming on their brakes instead of slowing from 50mph to 40mph in a gradual controlled fashion if they see the van on the other side - this is very dangerous given the quantity of traffic usually in this area and the poor 40mph signage.

The whole attitude and thick skins of the Speed Camera operation would not choose the position they use if it is really accident reduction qas is there excuse for being at that position. Can they explain why the speed camera van is at that position at 10 AM on a Sunday morning regular as clockwork. Also many a time when workers have knocked off work at 3 PM and there they sit. Can they validate the accidents that have supposed to have happened in the last three years ? This blatant disregard for the working people of Nottingham is despicable. In any case the speed limit at 40 MPH where there are three lanes is utter nonsense and they know it that is why they are there. Another point is that erroneously the speed camera position is not near the canal but is nearer the 50 limit and near the train line bridge.

Just got a letter exactly from that camera today recoding my speed at 46 - I remember seeing the sign for 50 immediately after the camera - all the above comments are totally true and I would argue that the camera where it is placed is on the hard shoulder causing more confusion and potential fatal accidents due to where it is sitting on a bridge which was not designed to have a van parked. Targeting hospital workers, people visiting sick people is then lowest and the authority should be ashamed of this.
