Tree Crowned - displacement of Rooks from tree

Reported via mobile in the Tree Vandalised category anonymously at 08:01, Monday 22 July 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6258222.

The tree is located on the corner of Wanstead Road and Nightingale Lane in Bromley BR1. The tree was home to a large number of rooks which have now been displaced across all the housing roof tops at the top end of Bishop’s Avenue to which we are residents of Number 3.

The noise from the these birds is substantial and occurs around 5:00 am every morning, since the removal of this tree. They are scratching / clawing at our flat roof. I would like to understand how this tree was crowned when it was clear that there were nesting birds within it and also that there appears to be no action plan put in place to manage the displacement of these birds. It is also unclear why this tree has been crowned and the rest of the trees along Wanstead have not and are of equal size.

I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Thank you for your report, The tree was dead and in a very dangerous condition and needed to be felled for public safety, first priority. Any birds in the tree should not have had young this time of the year. Birds will fly were they please.. Bromley council can do nothing about the flying habits of wild birds.

    Thank you
