Parking on double yellow lines causing a collision hazard

Reported via desktop in the Car parking category anonymously at 11:57, Sat 20 July 2024

Sent to Mid Suffolk District Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6252898.

The double yellow lines on either side of the entrance to the Limes Hotel car park (Woodwards Lane) are frequently parked on by the same two vehicles, both Audi estates (one shown in the picture), as their ‘private parking places’. This makes leaving the lane from my house quite dangerous as a) it greatly restricts visibility for both me and the High Street vehicle users of each other as I emerge as these parked cars block the line of sight, and b) forces me into the oncoming traffic when turning left towards Stowmarket as I am unable to make a turn across the space that is protected by the double yellows to my left. The drivers in question have been ticketed but seemingly refuse to take notice. I wonder if their tickets have even been acknowledged. In the event that I am involved in a RTA as a consequence of this I will be providing my insurer with a copy of this notification as I do not feel that this hazard, whilst obvious, is being effectively dealt with.

Updates

  • These same car and others continue to park illegally and make access to the High Street quite dangerous.

  • The cars’ owners say they know it’s antisocial, but given they only get a ticket every month or so consider it a price worth paying for private car spaces next to their barber shop. Feel free to share that with the council!
