Two Adjacent Streetlights Out

Reported in the Street lighting category by Richard Taylor at 00:20, Mon 22 June 2009

Sent to Cambridgeshire County Council 5 minutes later

Street lights 3 and 5 (which are next to each other) on Mill Road in Cambridge are out.

The presence of trees, with a full complement of leaves at this time of year, contributes to making the street especially dark.

This is an area heavily used by cyclists and pedestrians crossing the road.

Updates

  • I received an acknowledgement from the council stating:

"I confirm receipt of your email of 22/06/09 with regards to the faults at the above location. I can now confirm that new works orders have been raised on our system for the attention of our contractors, who will address and rectify the problems in due course."

As of the 7th of July the lights are still out. I have written again to the council, copying the County Councillor for the ward, Nichola Harrison.

  • Thanks for letting me know about this Richard. I will contact the council (though interestingly I found out yesterday that the council's target timescales for replying to people are the same for councillors as they are for the public. Interesting?!

  • I have received the following from the council:

"I confirm receipt of your email with regards to the faults at the above location. Apologies for the delay in my response to you. I can now confirm that after the faults were reported on 22/06/09 , CCC raised a new works order on the system 23/06/09 (LA Code 230984 & LA Code 230985)for the attention of our contractors. The faults were addressed and rectified as our system shows that all works were completed 03/07/09. Since this, we have received further reports, advising that the units were still not in operation. It appears that there is a fault with the power supply and underground cabling, after the site in question has been scouted to thoroughly check and investigate. CCC and our service providers are aware of the current situation, and this has been forwarded to the attention of EDF Energy. Notifications have been raised for the attention of EDF (LA Code 233339 & LA Code 233340) 08/07/09. The general anticipated timescale for works completion is 5 days from EDF receiving the initial report, therefore, I trust the matters will be addressed and rectified by 13/07/09."

  • These street lights are now back on again. There's been a lot of digging up of the pavement involved in doing the repair; the electricity works are still ongoing.

    State changed to: Fixed
