Tree Branches overhanging

Reported via mobile in the Tree Requires Pruning category anonymously at 12:24, Monday 15 July 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council 2 hours, 37 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 6231005.

There are loads of tree branches overhanging our driveway due to which the plants under it do not get proper sunlight and rain.

Also loads of dead leaves and branches keep falling in the driveway.

Would request someone to check it and get the tree pruned down

  • Thank you for your enquiry. Please note as outlined in our Tree Management Strategy (tree-management-strategy-2023-to-2027 (bromley.gov.uk)

The Council will not remove or prune trees where requests are based on the following issues:

    • Branches overhanging properties. Residents have the right to exercise their right under common law to prune back branches to their property boundary, with all arising disposed of by the resident. Pruning should be carried out following discussion with one of the Council’s Tree Officers and completed to the standard set out in BS3998:2010 Tree Work

Tree size, where a tree is judged to be overly large

Lack of light: there is no ‘Right to light’ (or shade) in British law.

It is noted that the tree has a low canopy and have been raised and issued to the contractor to crown lift the tree.
