Roots lifting pavement

Reported via mobile in the Pavement Defect category anonymously at 12:35, Tue 9 July 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6208578.

Hello this old tree stump is an obstruction and its roots have lifted and caused the pathway to be uneven. It’s a trip hazard and my youngest stumbled this week resulting in grazing her chin. It’s not ideal for our local elderly residents that have to by pass this park with their walking aids. The wall of number 50 has been damaged by the root lifting

  • The tree has been felled and a stump of at least 1m high has been left in situ, this is to safeguard pedestrians from the tree pit area until such time as a stump removal can take place. Stump removal is ideally scheduled to take place within 2 months of the tree removal. But stump removal is a non-urgent task that is often delayed when other health & safety priority works are required of our contractor. The location has also been added to our database for a replacement tree which we intend to plant during the next tree planting season which runs from November to March. Until that time, the tree pit will be staked with a wooden post which acts as a quasi-bollard to safeguard pedestrians. If you would like to do more to help our newly planted trees thrive, please consider joining our Tree Friends Program Tree Friends (bromley.gov.uk)

  • If you believe a Council-maintained tree is causing (or has caused) damage to your property, then you will need to complete a claim form. Bromley currently have a shared Insurance Service with Sutton Council. An online claim form can be completed and submitted via Sutton’s website: https://www.sutton.gov.uk/ info/ 200436/ customer_services/ 1146/ insurance_service/ 2

Please carefully read the full extent of the information required when making a direct claim against the Council. You may also wish to contact your own homeowner’s insurance for advice and guidance.
