Brambles are a real menace

Reported via desktop in the Hedges category anonymously at 19:50, Thu 27 June 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6164443.

Vicious brambles are stretching right across the narrow pavement. I am trying to be eco-friendly by using the bus, but I have to endanger myself by stepping onto the road to avoid the brambles when getting to and from the bus-stop. It's now too dangerous for my neighbour to take her daughter down the pavement in a wheelchair. Is this discrimination against the disabled? Yes, the family now has to use a car instead! Is this "green"? Young cyclists are also risking life and limb when they cycle to and from school. (Or do you prefer their parents to drive them in their cars instead?) When sorting out the nettles last week, the same crew could have -- easily -- tidied up the brambles as well, but didn't. Why? (Because it's not on the job-sheet?) Now you won't send out another crew (for another year?). I am happy to go out with my secateurs to tidy up, if the authorities would give me the permission to do this. Yes, I do pay tax. Please do something before someone gets hurt. Thank you.

  • There are no visible markers on the road, although there is a milestone marker buried in the shrubbery. It is the stretch of pavement between the start of the path outside Baytree House on B4017 towards #140 Abingdon/Drayton Road (left going towards Didcot). From the start of the footpath at Baytree House (south-western end of the green triangle), count 30, 45 and 100 paces. First photo above, walking towards Didcot. Second and third photos, walking towards Abingdon. Hope this helps. Please note that if you are chopping anything back, chop also those bits which are not yet protruding into the the pavement space, and these could be at any height. These brambles have a habit of growing really quickly. The heavier ones will then droop onto eye level eventually. In other words, please be proactive. Thank you.

  • 2024-07-08: It appears that some other resident, more irate than I am, had taken upon themselves to remove the offending bits of these brambles. However, this is a recurring problem. I would urge whoever is in charge to please not only remove the nettles (AND the brambles) only in response to residents' complaints. Make this a task/job that needs to be done on a regular and proactive basis. Thank you.
