Dangerous parking

Reported via desktop in the Car parking category anonymously at 08:50, Thu 20 June 2024

Sent to Bury Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6131058.

A number of cars are continually and repeatedly parking near the junction of Longsight Road and Westgate Avenue, Bury, BL0 9SS. Due to the proximity of the parked vehicles to the junction, this is effectively making the junction a single lane. When turning into Westgate Avenue off the main road (Longsight Road) drivers are being forced to stop, mid manoeuvre and in the path of oncoming traffic, due to the parked cars restricting traffic flow. When coming from the direction of Bury it isn't possible to see if the path is clear on Westgate Avenue until manoeuvring into it, and this is causing people to have to suddenly stop with their vehicle mid junction, which led to several near misses. Individuals have left notes on the parked cars, asking them to park further from the junction but this hasn't helped. The amount of parked cars and their layout is also restricting access to larger vehicles, like emergency ambulances and fire appliances, causing them to have to reroute their journey.
