Trees in and around Council-owned maisonettes need pruning

Reported via desktop in the Tree Requires Pruning category anonymously at 10:29, Wed 19 June 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6126297.

Hello, we've received a complaint from the owner of the maisonette at 38 Ethelbert Close that trees in the front and rear gardens of 37 Ethelbert Close (which is Council-owned and empty) need pruning, because they're blocking out the light to Flat 38. I've been advised this had to be reported through fixmystreet, hence me raising this request. Can you arrange for them to be pruned please?

  • Where expressed permission is given by the land owner or a managing agent acting on the freeholder's behalf Bromley Council will investigate nuisance vehicles on privately owned land.

There is a non-refundable administration charge per vehicle for the investigation of vehicles on private land. The investigation includes site visits, all relevant DVLA checks and the serving of any required notices on the vehicle. If there is no interested party or the vehicle is not claimed by an owner and deemed to be abandoned the removal of the vehicle will be undertaken free of charge by Bromley.

You can apply and pay for the investigation of a vehicle on private land online by using the link https://www.bromley.gov.uk/ Vehicleinvestigationform

  • I just wanted to add information to this request. I'm worried that the team who deal with this matter may check to see if Ethelbert Close is a public highway and conclude that the Council would not be responsible for pruning the trees here, because it isn't a public highway. The road itself is a private road, but the Council has acquired a number of properties in this road and the property where the tree is located that needs pruning, is definitely owned by the Council. That is why the Council needs to prune the tree.

  • Bromley Council are not responsible for maintaining private trees. Further information on your rights and options for dealing with overhanging trees from neighbouring private land can be found at the Citizen's Advice website: http://www.adviceguide.org.uk

  • It's not a private tree, it's owned by the Council. As I explained above, the Council owns 37 Ethelbert Close, it also owns 39 Ethelbert Close, but the tree is in the garden of 37. This means it's not a private tree.

  • Thank you for your update, You are right. the tree is owned by Bromley council. We have made further inquires bellow. " The tree isn’t in the garden of number 38, as I understand it, it’s in the garden of number 37, which is next door. We own number 37, 39 and 40, which are in the same block as 38 – 38 is the only one we don’t own." The trees will be inspected. any health and safety works will be undertaken or were the tree toughs the property. Thank you

  • It's not a private tree. As I've said further up in this thread, it's in the garden of 37 Ethelbert Close, which the Council owns, along with 39 and 40 Ethelbert Close, therefore it's a Council-owned tree, not a private tree. I've made the same point in this thread repeatedly.
