Unsafe pedestrian crossing at Hangers Way

Reported via desktop in the Rights of way category by Tim Gill at 15:58, Mon 17 June 2024

Sent to Hampshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6118339.

The pedestrian crossing of the Hangers Way at the A31 Alton is a clear threat to life, due to the high speed of vehicle traffic and the poor sight lines at a crossing of two dual-carriageway segments. Given the popularity of this route, urgent action needs to be taken. I would personally favour a permanent crossing either under or over the by-pass. A temporary change of route may also provide a short-term solution.

  • 3 months on, and I have heard no substantive update. I had an acknowledgement from Hampshire Countryside section telling me the issue has "been forwarded to our Area Rights of Way Officer to investigate."
