Paving slabs near large tree roots have lifted and loose which is hazardous to pedestrians.

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6117523.
Our tree surgeon Peter Rowland (Evergreen Tree Services) has looked at this, whilst not 100% certain, believes the tree to be an Elm. He has expressed the view that this tree is too large and too fast growing for the narrow pavement and there is a real risk the root development could soon spread to and damage our garden brick wall which is now showing signs of distress. There are small cracks appearing. The rate of growth has been staggering in a short space of time and will clearly continue to cause ongoing problems which concerns us. Feel that this tree needs to be removed and/or take remedial action to inhibit further root spread which appears to have escalated just this year. Must emphasise…the paving slabs are actually moving when stood on so it’s a real hazard.

Report number : 6117523 Please note that this issue HAS NOT BEEN FIXED as reported on your update this afternoon. Two contractors came to look at the hazardous paving slabs to try and ‘fix’ the problem on Friday 22/6/24. However, after trying to lift the slabs, they decided that because of the erupting roots, further intervention was needed and promptly replaced the cone on top of a slab marked with an X. This is entirely unsatisfactory and of course STILL HAZARDOUS. I await your prompt response. Thankyou.

Works have been raised to address this matter in the routine way. A job was raised to highlight the defect and another raised to address the marked paving slab. This will require the grinding of the tree roots which must be carried out by our arboreal contractor before our minor works contractor can re-lay the paving slab properly. This will take time due to demand and the need for both parties to schedule-in these works. LBB will appreciate your patience in the meantime.

Reference: 6117523. Further to my original report of the issue re hazardous paving slabs on 17/6/24 & your response on 26/6/24, I wish to now report that more slabs have become very insecure in close proximity to the original slab in question (marked with an X), & these need attention as well as further cracking near garden wall. Also, not unsurprisingly, the traffic cone left by your operators has been stolen ! Please see attached photos. The area adjacent to the tree has deteriorated since first reported in June & in a relatively short space of time. If left unattended I feel this could result in an escalating & unnecessarily level of remedial work both increasing costs & danger to the public. Could you therefore give this your urgent attention. I await your response. Thankyou.

LBB apologises for the delay in action at this location. This does require the input of two separate contractors and both have received instruction to resolve this matter as soon as possible.
