Pot hole cover sunken and loose, Continual disturbance as traffic goes over cover.

Reported via desktop in the Manhole category anonymously at 16:46, Thursday 30 May 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6040538.

The manhole cover creates a noise like a railway train going over a rail joint every time a vehicle passes. The problem is getting worse. I think the cover is either sinking or coming loose. I think the manhole belongs to Thames water. Cover is on eastbound side of A4095 (Main Rd, Long Hanborough opposite number 202.) During peak travel in the morning the noise is very aggravating and disturbs our sleep. The issue has been present for at least 2 months and is getting progressively worse.

  • The complete cover has now sunk so its not just loose and with the constant hammering from traffic it is becoming much worse. You can see the surrounding crack's in the attched photo. I would say it urgent now !

  • Update ... one side of the frame has now come loose breaking up the support below. It of of great concern now that the complete man hole will collapse, resulting in a car (or cars) collision . Who can take responsibility for this before there is an accident. ?? Should I report it to the Police to prevent this ?

  • Loose manhole. Manhole installed over road side gully pot when footpath was extended.

  • Thames water have attended and confirmed it as urgent. However it is not a Thamed Water asset. Its a storm drain for Highways. Someone came on the 18th July and covered the drain cover with tarmac ?? (so it's not possible to open the cover now) However, they did not fix the cover frame so now the whole drain/cover is still very noisy and moving with the tarmac on top.

  • Can this be actioned urgently please, it has been very irritating for many weeks, but now with the warm weather and having to keep windows open it is not possible to sleep after around 5 am and continues until around 11pm. Thames Water thought it urgent enough to send someone out the same day on the 18th July they found it was not their asset so did not repair the cover and frame.
