Hole in pavement possibly indicative of broken drain

Reported via desktop anonymously at 23:30, Friday 24 May 2024

Sent to East Hertfordshire District Council and Hertfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6018314.

The pavement at this location has been broken for some months - the temporary repair has not lasted. During heavy rain recently I noticed that water is bubbling out of the hole - which suggests to me that the hole might be caused by a broken surface water drain somewhere nearby.

Updates

  • This hole was fixed (the kerbstones were replaced and the tarmac patched) but is now damaged again. The kerbstones are still (roughly) in place, but there is a new, small hole in the tarmac.

Note that there is also now a depression in the road, on the eastbound lane, just behind the vehicle in my picture. The road has not long been resurfaced, this suggests to me there is some sort of issue under the surface.
