Corner of Livingstone Way and Nightingale Close

Reported via mobile in the Gully/Drainage category by Highways Assessor at 21:50, Sat 18 May 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5991340.

The metal road drainage cover sits on engineering bricks which are positioned below the surface of the road. A gap in the pointing between these sub-surface engineering bricks, has allowed rain water to wash sub-surface sand and other material into the gully. The loss of this material has caused a sub-surface void, and this has led to the kerb as well as the adjacent block paving on Nightingale Close to sink. The kerbs have also moved outwards towards the road, and a gap has been created between the pavement and the kerb.

Cheshire East Highways have previously attempted to fix this problem, but their failure to understand how the void was originally created (pointing issue in the gully) meant their 'fix' of sharp sand has now been washed into the gully.

Its recommended that the pointing fault in the gully brickwork is filled when the sunken block paving is lifted. Once the gap in the brickwork has been filled, sharp sand can again be used to re-bed and level the sunken block paving. The gaps under the kerbs and pavement should also be assessed, and filled if practicable.

The gap between the kerb and the pavement should be filled with tarmac, and the fist sized gap between the road surface and the gully needs to be filled so that it cannot be washed away, or loosened by vehicles.
