Blocked road surface water drains
Reported via iOS in the Blocked Drain category anonymously at 14:58, Sat 27 April 2024
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5905723.
The 2 storm drains, and the manhole half way down the bank towards pond 1/Caesars Well are totally blocked by vegetation. As a result the road surface water floods over the kerb edging and mud bank of Westerham Road and floods the path below rendering it impassable. The 2 manholes are located between the entrance to the Keston Ponds car park and lamppost number 58W39 to the north.

The contractors are aware that this job is still outstanding - Traffic management is required to complete the work and these kinds of jobs usually take longer than usual to resolve. Thanks for your patience with this matter.

Thank you for your update. It is a great shame that the opportunity to rectify this issue was not taken earlier this year (March?) when there was TM in place with one way working under temp lights. It was in the same location as the storm drains as I actually drove through it, and mistakenly thought it may have been for this report. That was not the case as it would appear that it was for carriageway patching/resurfacing works only and when last viewed the drains were chock full of loose stone chippings. An opportunity missed perhaps when finances are stretched, but only my opinion as a local resident who wants resolution soonest.

These photographs were taken on Thursday 20th February 2025, only 2 days after it was reported that the issue had been fixed. Perhaps the portfolio holder would like to comment as to why the issue clearly persists nearly one year after it was reported, and not for the first time. Contaminated surface rain water continues to flow unabated directly into the source of the river Ravensbourne at Caesar’ Well, and is continually water logging the circular trail around Keston pond 1. I’m sure you do not need reminding that this area is a declared Site of Special Scientific Interest, attracts visitors to the area and should be dealt with appropriately.

The drainage assets have been attended by our drainage contractor however the source of the issue appears to be more complex than a simple routine cleanse. Roots were discovered in the drain and specialist equipment is required to remove them. This will need to be scheduled alongside cyclic drainage cleans, emergency call outs, pre-planned drainage operations and ad-hoc call outs meaning they are often undertaken not in the order that they are reported but in the order of degree of urgency. Due to the expense of specialist work, they are also undertaken in bulk. Therefore, non-urgent work may take some time to complete. While this FixMyStreet report will be closed the issue will remain on our list of outstanding drainage works until such time that they can be completed. We thank you for your patience and understanding on these matters.
