Missing footpath

Reported via mobile in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 13:27, Tuesday 2 April 2024

Sent to Enfield Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5795614.

The footpath across Hillyfields Park ends at a dangerous bend on Phipps Hatch Road. Pedestrians (especially those with wheelchairs or pushchairs) are obliged to walk on the road and try to cross to safety on the nearest drive way. This is right at the most dangerous place on the road with poor lines of sight and often busy with traffic. THIS LOCATION IS A FATALITY ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN! The solution is to extend the tarmac footpath about 20 metres in a southwesterly direction to facilitate a safer crossing for all users.

Updates

  • It would be unreasonable to expect the Council to act so swiftly. However, this issue should not be ignored until the time when some one gets hurt. I was walking along the footpath 2 days ago and observed 2 men having to dangerously dodge heavy traffic at rush hour!

  • At the top (SW) end of Hillyfields Park the frequently used path terminates at a blind bend on a busy road. What could possibly go wrong? I hope that Enfield Council will address the problem before someone gets killed on this dangerous corner.

  • The worst potholes have been filled but there are plenty more to repair. Why didn’t they finish the job? This cannot be an efficient use of taxpayers money.

  • Do we need to wait for a serious accident to prompt the Council into action?
