Flooding on pedestrian crossing

Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 17:24, Tue 12 March 2024

Sent to West Sussex County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5703282.

Every time it rains, the road outside of Burgess Hill Girls School floods. The flooding occurs by the traffic lights where pedestrians cross the road. This stops people from using the lights and therefore cross elsewhere so they can avoid the big puddles of water. This morning I witnessed a child getting nearly ran over by a car as they couldn’t use the pedestrian crossing. This is causing risk to children’s lives and needs to be fixed immediately. A serious accident will happen and the council will be responsible.

  • Not sure if this issue has been resolved. Waiting for another heavy rain to see if the drains are still blocked and cause flooding.

  • The drains are still blocked, causing flooding on pedestrian crossing. School children are crossing the road without using the designated crossing putting their lives in danger.

  • The pedestrian crossing outside burgess hill girls school still floods every time we have heavy rain. This is very dangerous and an accident is waiting to happen. Children are crossing the road in between traffic trying to avoid the flooded areas.
