Traffic lights unresponsive

Reported in the Traffic lights category by Katherine Anteney at 07:21, Fri 9 January 2015

Sent to Southampton City Council 4 minutes later

The new traffic lights at Captains Place do not pick up on cars turning out of the cattle market and do not seem to recognise bicycles at all. Traffic sits here for ages and I have seen cars eventually run a red light because the lights don't change

  • It doesn't matter which way you come. After 7 mins today I went through the traffic lights on red. Please fix before there is an accident. Two lorries went straight across on red today.

  • My partner on his scooter says traffic lights never change. Does not recognise.

  • When will people coming out of Captains Place be able to turn right at these traffic lights. We have put up with more than two years of roadworks and still have to drive half way round the block to go over the bridge.

  • I've had email feedback from the council and they know it is a problem but they are not sure what they can do about it. The lights are picking up the traffic a bit better now but you still have to wait through about 4 changes of lights before this junction goes green. It's all due to them changing the junction when they did the road works. It's sort of typical of doing works before actually looking at what the junction is used for. In this case the 'side road' is actually where most of the traffic comes from as it is a busy industrial estate but they put the sensor too far back for it to pick up that traffic or to leave space for more than one car to turn out and queue at the lights at any one time.

  • People coming out the side road by these traffic lights do not go over the sensors and therefore end up having to go thru red traffic lights. This has been like this for FOUR months now. It needs fixing. The company that did the toad works did not reinstate the sensors correctly.
