Persistent Flooding Makes Crossing Usable

Reported via iOS in the Road Defect category anonymously at 09:51, Fri 23 February 2024

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5619105.

Even in light rain, the zebra crossing opposite Kent House Station Approach, persistently floods making the crossing unusable. It could be a blocked storm drain but because this happens so often, it also looks like the fall of the road when the crossing was built a few years ago was not profiled correctly to lead water to the nearest storm drain.

  • It’s not clear that the Traffic Engineering Team actually took any action to resolve this problem. The photo was the situation on 14th October after a moderate amount of rain. Something isn’t working with the drainage on this crossing. Please can they re-evaluate the problem?

  • The situation is being investigated to establish what can be undertaken to prevent the water from pooling at this location. Please be advised that it will not be a quick fix.

  • I appreciate the team were keen to close this report by suggesting that the Traffic Engineering team would have to investigate further but I would appreciate if this can be kept open until such time as a solution is found. As you can see from the latest photograph taken on 6th January 2025, any sort of rain makes the crossing unusable which, given the traffic flow on Kings Hall Road, means pedestrians are forced to cross at other more dangerous sections of the road. This is a clear road safety issue which I would trust has the councils highest priority to address.

  • Our engineers have assessed and a project to address the issue at this location is being designed. The project will require planning, funding and scheduling within Highway Major Works programme. This is a long-term project and this FMS report will not be held open for the duration. Updates on the project can be requested via traffic@bromley.gov.uk using this report reference 5619105 but again we would re-iterate this is a long-term project.
