Tree Preservation Order Application

Reported via mobile in the Trees in parks, commons, and open spaces category anonymously at 20:58, Tue 20 February 2024

Sent to Runnymede Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5607131.

Tree type : Oak. Height : Approx 35 to 40 m.

This tree is a local landmark and is home to Woodpeckers and many birds. You can periodically see swarms of birds heading for its branches as they swirl around the sky in a glorious formation. This brings an enormous sense of well being which helps to reduce stress in todays fast moving world. The Oak tree is part of a small wood located directly behind my property and currently owned by Squires Garden Centre. I have reason to believe that it may be in future danger of being felled by a developer who is looking to build properties on the land adjacent to it called White Lodge. The current owner of White Lodge has recently felled many trees (Approx 20) on his land to make it easier for a developer to get planning permission in the future and the prospective developer has approached Squires to see if the land that this fine Oak tree is standing on is for sale. I fear that if the land is acquired by the developer then this Oak tree may be felled for development. As you can see from the photos this is a fine Oak Tree even during winter with no leaves on and provides a sense of well being to people in the area. We need to conserve these magnificent Oak Trees for future generations and to help with slowing climate change. Please approve this request for a Tree Protection Order on this Oak.
