Ash trees along footpath

Reported via mobile in the Tree Requires Pruning category anonymously at 22:57, Mon 19 February 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5602245.

There are a number of large ash trees along the footpath between Romney Drive and Scott’s Park school. Virtually all of the trees in the Scott’s Park school grounds have been affected by ash dieback. Some of the largest ash trees on the footpath have bark discolouration. Please can these trees be monitored/pruned to ensure they are safe.

  • Thank you for your enquiry. LBB has an ongoing monitoring process for trees with ADB, based upon Forestry Commission/Tree Council and the ARB associations advice. Ash trees are one of the last broadleaves before Oak to come into leaf. It is currently too early for this seasons ongoing monitoring to begin but it due to start in the next few weeks where appropriate action will be taken based upon the trees condition and live canopy remaining.

  • Hello, please can we have an update for the ash tree along the footpath by the end of the cul de sac? The largest of the ash trees (about 10 metres from the start of the footpath) has lost a lot of foliage and over the last few years has lost a lot of large branches. If the tree falls it will destroy nearby properties. Tree surgeons have inspected the tree and suggested that it needs significant scaling back and shows signs of die back.

  • Our contractor has been notified to take the appropriate action.

Posted by Bromley Council at 13:16, Tue 1 October 2024

  • We have raised works to the large Ash tree next to the property that is half dead. (This tree will be cut hard back to a tree trunk, Monolith) Bromley council dose not prune or cut back trees because of overhanging branches. The school will also be notified about any trees on there land that needs inspecting.

    Thank you

  • Please could we have an update about the partially dead ash tree at the end of Romney Drive. This was first reported 9 months ago and the tree remains in the same condition. It has lost some large branches over this time and is only going to become more dangerous with the stormy weather over winter.

  • Please accept our apologies for the delays, the works have been taken off our incumbent contractor and issued to a third party contractor for completion. We envisage that the contractor will take 6-8 weeks to complete them.

  • The third party contractor is making progress working through the backlog and we envisage that they will undertake works raised for this enquiry soon. Thank you for your patience
