Dangerous parking on double yellow

Reported via Android in the Road Markings - Worn/Faded category anonymously at 12:13, Monday 19 February 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5598760.

I, and a few others have reported this issue numerous times over the last few years and you've done nothing about it. Hopefully, a change of government will help. There has been 3 accidents on this junction, 1 of which was my wife and the car was written off a d another time the guy was severely injured. The garage DE Autos Park their customers cars there every single day and visibility on the junction is horrendous because of it. Not only do they park there, they also work on cars on the double yellow lines (either side of them, so they block the path too). Just the other day, I had to swerve to avoid a jack that was on the road. It's unacceptable.

  • Investigation: Completed (Highways to Monitor, Routine Inspection Programme) - Thank you for your report, and apologies for the delay in replying. I am sorry to hear of the incidents you have reported. We are aware of ongoing issues here, although I don't agree that nothing has been done as yellow lines have been provided here, and added to over recent years. Our Parking Enforcement officers do visit, but legally they need to observe for a period and if cars are moved within that period then a ticket cannot be issued. Also, they can only take action about parking on yellow lines, not about obstruction or illegal work activity. We are liaising with colleagues in other teams to assess whether any other teams have relevant powers regarding the other issues you have reported. You may also wish to make the Police aware of these issues.
