Broken Storm Drain
Reported via desktop in the Blocked Drain / Gully category anonymously at 08:53, Monday 19 February 2024
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5597153.
This has been an ongoing issue that has got progressively worse over the years. The principal reason for the storm drain overflow is that a concrete lorry, delivering to the development at the bottom of the lane in Feb2020 crushed the storm drain that was next to the carriageway and which the developer simply covered the damage with hardcore and tarmac – photographic evidence is available. Numerous complaints have been raised by neighbours resulting in, at best, a sludge tanker clearing the drain inlet outside the bread Oven at Somenos clearing the build up of stormwater at that point until the next heavy rainfall when the whole issue stated again, and at worse the advice that Park Lane was an unadopted road so nothing could be done? The situation now is that in high rainwater the stormwater drain is backing up to and past Flagstones some 50+M from the original damage. Stormwater then leaks from manholes, and into surrounding ground causing potential damage to property footings. Thames Water have also attended in the past but their advice is that the area where the damage has occurred does not appear on their stormwater drain maps? Without the rebuilding of the crushed storm drain outside to of the development, the problem will continue and manifest each time there is heavy rainfall making the public path at the bottom of Park Lane impassable

In response to your enquiry and the numerous others we have received regarding the recent flooding and associated drainage issues. We understand the inconvenience and distress that such incidents can cause, and we appreciate your patience as we work to address these concerns. Our team has been working diligently to assess the situation and implement necessary measures to mitigate the impact of flooding. However, due to the volume of enquiries and the complexity of the issues at hand, we have been unable to address each individual report.
Therefore, after much thought we have decided to close down reports relating to drainage matters during the winter months as after investigating the data it was apparent that many of the fixmystreet reports/issues were caused by the sheer volume of rainwater that fell meaning that the drainage system was unable to cope due to ground water saturation. We are aware of many areas across the county where flooding occurred and are currently working in conjunction with district and parish council towards addressing these issues.
If you feel your enquiry does not fall within the scope of the above, please raise a new report with a detailed description including photos where possible/ safe to do so via www.fixmystreet.comhttp://www.fixmystreet.com.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Rest assured; we are committed to resolving these issues as quickly as possible.
