  • This is a result of the SUDS drainage. There are no gullies, the water is supposed to soak away, but the road surface has probably silted up since it was installed several years ago. Has there been any routine maintenance of the SUDS carried out since it was built?

This area also used to flood when it was the blanket factory & was built on the floodplain, so it shouldn't be a surprise that the water doesn't drain away very easily.

IMHO, the developers should put this right, not the council.. Is it still under warranty?

  • You might be interested to read the original FLOOD RISK ASSESSMENT AND DRAINAGE STRATEGY for this development. Basically, there are no swales or gullies on the estate, few trees & little grass either, just concrete. This low area will flood until it soaks away or runs overground into Emma's Dyke!

It also says OCC will adopt the road & maintain the SUDS. You will need to check if they did adopt it, what is the maintenance strategy & what, if any, maintenance they have actually done.

It's worth remembering that these recent storms are NOT 1 in 100 year events, so future flooding will likely be worse if maintenance or remedial action is not undertaken.

  • In response to your enquiry and the numerous others we have received regarding the recent flooding and associated drainage issues. We understand the inconvenience and distress that such incidents can cause, and we appreciate your patience as we work to address these concerns. Our team has been working diligently to assess the situation and implement necessary measures to mitigate the impact of flooding. However, due to the volume of enquiries and the complexity of the issues at hand, we have been unable to address each individual report.

Therefore, after much thought we have decided to close down reports relating to drainage matters during the winter months as after investigating the data it was apparent that many of the fixmystreet reports/issues were caused by the sheer volume of rainwater that fell meaning that the drainage system was unable to cope due to ground water saturation. We are aware of many areas across the county where flooding occurred and are currently working in conjunction with district and parish council towards addressing these issues.

If you feel your enquiry does not fall within the scope of the above, please raise a new report with a detailed description including photos where possible/ safe to do so via www.fixmystreet.comhttp://www.fixmystreet.com.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Rest assured; we are committed to resolving these issues as quickly as possible.
