Multiple large and deep potholes

Reported via desktop in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 08:41, Sunday 11 February 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5560295.

There are multiple large and deep potholes on Headlands, Kettering between junctions with Broadway and Glebe Ave. These have been reported several times over the past year but no adequate repairs have been undertake. Consequently the condition has deteriorated considerably. It is now a danger to all two wheel vehicles and has the potential to damage other vehicles.

As a former highway engineer for Herts CC, Warks CC and Highways Agency (M25) it is clear that this section requires milling and re-sheeting with a new wearing course.

  • THIS CAN NOT WAIT UNTIL JULY

This road needs a complete resurface as there has already been an accident caused by the amount and size of the potholes along Headlands.

At the very minimum URGENT (within 30 days) temporary repairs/patching is needed as a short term mitigation.

Please can this be dealt with as a PRIORITY as the situation is only getting worse as the road continues to deteriorate.

You as the Council have a responsibility for road safety/repairs and so far, the lack of action could be considered negligence by the Council. Please sort it out.

  • Headlands is getting worse and worse with people having to drive down the centre to avoid damping cars. It is a matter of time before there is another accident. It was repaired last year but not well enoug.

  • This area of road cannot wait until July! Large and deep potholes across the entire surface between the junctions of Hawthorn Road and Broadway. Cars having to swerve and straddle the middle of the road in order to avoid. Just a matter of time because serious damage is caused to cars steering/tyres and/or an accident waiting to happen…

  • Please can more details be provided by the Council about why this has been categorised as not urgent and therefore can be left until July?

If this road has been inspected it would be very obvious the entire road surface has failed and as soon as we get heavy rain the potholes deteriorate further as more of the road surface is washed away.

There is no way this road can be left in its current state until July as there will be little road left to repair by then. It really needs urgent attention now as there are some huge potholes which will cause damage and mean cars now drive down the middle of the road to avoid them which is creating more risk of accidents.

I strongly urge the priority of these road repairs are re-assessed and some temporary repairs are made ASAP to the worst of the potholes; of which there are many all along Headlands currently.

  • This situation is now a significant danger to those of us on two wheels and is causing damage to cars. It cannot possibly wait until July for repairs as there will be no road surface left.
