Drunkards in 'no drinking' area
Reported anonymously at 14:34, Wed 22 April 2009 ; (there is no pin shown as the user did not use the map)
Sent to Leicester City Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 54894.
Almost daily, there are people drinking in Prebend Gardens. This area is considered a 'no drinking' area and there are numerous signs up for this. I assume that these people are from the nearby night shelter on conduit street. This has led to myself and many people of the community not going or taking their children to the gardens.

Seems, neither the council, nor police, nor our local councillors or the night shelter (where these people come from) are willing to help. We'll have to keep our children indoors in Summer.

The reason why this area is a deprived area (and any other area classified as a deprived area) is not because of the people, but because of City Council policies and neglect of the community. This issue has not been resolved and there is NO concerted effort, by the police, city council or the night shelter (from where these people originate) to have it resolved.

I see drinkers every morning, yes every morning, blatantly drinking outside the night shelter on Conduit street. The whole area is a no drinking zone and the night shelter admin do not seem to give a damn. Neither does the council or police.

I walk past every morning whilst going in to work, and I must admit although I'm not the kind of guy the gets afraid, seeing literally droves of drunkards (men and women) loitering around can be intimidating.

I've requested my family to avoid taking the route that the drunkards congregate. It's a shame these people are affecting our way of life, but the Dawn centre doesn;t care, neither does the city council and the police put half-hearted policies in place which last a couple of says and its back to business as usual for the drunkards. The area is going down the drain, unlike the alcohol.

We still continue to see these people in these areas.

I go past the gardens every morning (every morning!) and every morning, there are people drinking there (yes, every morning and still there). I now set my time on my watch, they are that punctual. And the labour current councillors have the audacity to beg from us that we vote in another labour councillor for the castle ward. What i joke!

The hell it has, and diddly squat is being doen about it still. We have had a new, all singing, all dancing, councillor, with her pre-election rehtoric about how she will sort things out. Typical, its all low prifile now.

City council doesnt really give a diddly squat about this area, hence no improvements of any kind. IN fact, it's gotten worse, with drunk people becoming more confident in walking around with drinks cans and bottles in this 'no drinking' zone. Shameful!

In full agreement with all the posted comments - why don't you post your details and then the Council can do something about it... you can ring the police every time you see it happening with your name - they are just as keen to stop the problem but can't respond to problems from anonymous complainants.
Contact the Dawn Centre.
Contact the council.
Contact the police.
Contact our local councillor.... if more than me does this on a regular basis surely they can't ignore the problem for too much longer.Posted anonymously at 11:32, Thu 26 November 2009

I agree with Srah about the anonymous posts. But i think, the council, police and dawn centre are fully aware of the situation and have been for the last couple of years, but there is no concerted effort to resolve this issue. There are operations carried out by the police which last a couple weeks, then nothing after. The council will do nowt, as this issue originated from them, with their great idea of the dawn centre.

These people are now congregating under the shelter of the main Railway station with their bottles of alcohol, right in front of the station police.

Oh no, a Tesco Express has opened at the corner of Conduit Street, selling, yes you guessed it, Alcohol!
I wonder which bright spark thought of that idea!
Yes I notice too that they now congregate under the shelter in the Railway Station or in the car park behind the new Tesco, throwing up and allsorts!
My wife hjas contacted the council and Dawn centre but they keep on dodging the issue by saying they are not residents! But why do they congregate around the dawn centre??? Don't bees always gather around the hive?!
