Blocked off public right of way

Reported via desktop in the General highways enquiry category anonymously at 09:59, Thursday 25 January 2024

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5488865.

The PROW is blocked of so the very valuable short cut to Muller rd from Dovercourt Road is unusable. I cannot see any reason for good reason for this. There are no building works taking place on the old Bus Station site currently. Even that seems like a poor reason because there is a very adequate fence between the PROW and the building plot.

  • I looked up the TRO for this closure on the link provided on the BCC website. The final notice says the order will be operative from 7 July 2023 for a maximum period of 6 months! The sealed order gives no duration but is valid for 18 months from the same date. It has therefore expired and the heras fencing currently blocking the route is an illegal obstruction of a public right of way. BCC as the highway authority has a duty to remove that obstruction (and possibly prosecute the perpetrator!) Explanation please.
