Large pothole and flooding
Reported via desktop in the Blocked Drain / Gully category by Tony Betteridge at 21:00, Tuesday 9 January 2024
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5421536.
Following on from the report here last week, I have to ask the question - how many more years must pedestrians be prevented from walking the length of Long Tow by floodwaters EVERY TIME we have moderate -to-heavy rainfall in the area? For at least the last 7/8/9years, this road has flooded and I'm not aware of any remedial work being undertaken to remedy the situation during this time. Now that this week's floods have slightly abated, a massive pothole (some 3'-0" x 2'-0" has appeared - should this be re-covered by more flooding, there will undoubtably be some serious damage done to vehicles whose drivers are not aware of the problem. PLEASE can some action be taken, both regarding the long-term drainage of the area and the pothole as a matter of urgency. Photos show(1) car crossing the flood at c.30mph! (2) traffic waiting to pass. (3) the pothole.

Pot hole is huge and visibility extremely poor due to flood water.

Pothole is now much longer than what is shown in the above photos (probably c.2m long). Cars swerving into the verge or worse still, onto the wrong side of the road to avoid it. It is deep and will cause damage to cars. Please fix ASAP.

Now, eight weeks after I originally posted the current flooding problems on Long Tow, we have more floods, more potholes (photos 1 & 2 above) PLUS a drain on the north side of Long Tow about 120 metres eastwards from the flooding (see photo 3) pumping out a continuous stream of water, but: STILL NO REMEDIAL ACTION!! How much longer will local (pedestrian) residents be prevented from transversing Long Tow from Shippon to Wootton Road (and vice-versa) and how much longer should we pay exhorbitant levels of Council Tax in return for this sort of (lack of) service?? Our roads are pretty much a disgrace at the best of times, but ignoring this sort of ongoing situation goes beyond the pale....
