Storm drains can’t cope with heavy rain

The road outside my house floods when there’s heavy rain and blocks my drive making entry difficult through a large mass of water. In exceptional rain (as just witnessed) the local sewage pumping station can’t cope either and sewage water is added to the lake outside my house. Cars going through the water (usually at speed because of lack of traffic calming) spray water onto my perimeter wall and over time has washed the mortar away. This also causes a driving hazard as drivers move into the opposite lane of the road to avoid the water. Traffic from Sutton Courtenay is arriving into the same area without sight of the problem and decelerating from 40 mph. When the water recedes I’m left with debris from the flooded area on my drive, pictured. This has been a problem for many years and has never been fixed. I have reported it previously. This also impacts my neighbours whose cottage is below the level of the road. I didn’t get a picture of the recent flood but have included one from June.

Photos from 28/03/24. You can see how far cars are pushed into the opposite side. Large Lorries regularly use this road. Cyclists have little chance of being passed safely. I first reported this in 2020 and you’ve clearly not fixed as you’ve suggested.

Thank you for reporting flooding at this location. In some instances particularly in areas of historic flooding a solution may not be viable and we may need to sign the hazard. Your enquiry will be closed but may take time to resolve. For more information visit www.oxfordshirefloodtoolkit.com
