Rain water from field across not draining into the ditch because there is not ditch!!!
Reported via mobile in the Blocked Drain / Gully category anonymously at 13:32, Tue 2 January 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

This problem has been going on for years! We first thought it was to do with Thames water not having a good enough pump in place. Then we thought it was to do with soil/mud blocking the pipe systems, so we regularly clear the manholes. But now it is obvious to all of us that there is no ditch for the water from the field across to drain into. Please we would like this problem to be assessed properly and sorted as soon as possible. Thank you for your time.

The problem at Longfield is getting worse every time there is heavy rain. It continually floods because the ditch along the field opposite is completely filled with mud and heavily over grown. There is no where for the water to go except in the surface water drains causing blockage and extreme flooding. When it floods sewage gets into the surface water drainage as the pumping station is within yards. As we are the lowest point in the village , all surface water drains into a large pond /lake at The Nurseries. When sewage gets into the surface water this contaminates the lake and in turn passes into the water course which drains into the River Dorn. Houses on Longfield are unable to flush the toilets due to the sewage back up. This problem needs urgently dealing with and the ditch clearing.

In response to your enquiry and the numerous others we have received regarding the recent flooding and associated drainage issues. We understand the inconvenience and distress that such incidents can cause, and we appreciate your patience as we work to address these concerns. Our team has been working diligently to assess the situation and implement necessary measures to mitigate the impact of flooding. However, due to the volume of enquiries and the complexity of the issues at hand, we have been unable to address each individual report.
Therefore, after much thought we have decided to close down reports relating to drainage matters during the winter months as after investigating the data it was apparent that many of the fixmystreet reports/issues were caused by the sheer volume of rainwater that fell meaning that the drainage system was unable to cope due to ground water saturation. We are aware of many areas across the county where flooding occurred and are currently working in conjunction with district and parish council towards addressing these issues.
If you feel your enquiry does not fall within the scope of the above, please raise a new report with a detailed description including photos where possible/ safe to do so via www.fixmystreet.comhttp://www.fixmystreet.com.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Rest assured; we are committed to resolving these issues as quickly as possible.
