Headlands - Deep pothole at junction with Hawthorn Road

Reported via desktop in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 17:08, Sat 23 December 2023 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5351852.

There is a deep, large pothole which needs attention as it's down to the concrete base layer. The location right in the middle of a junction makes it more dangerous when people swerve to avoid it.

This section of road has deteriorated in the recent winter weather and needs urgent attention as a number of potholes have appeared.

This is a busy road with lots of school traffic and a fire station.

The yellow markings highlight the issue but should be obvious upon inspection.

  • What is the revised date for this repair? It was originally 16th January however no work has been completed.

This road still needs attention as it continues to deteriorate.

  • Today (23rd Jan) repairs were done on Bishops Drive yet this road has been left. Headlands is in far worse condition and needs urgent attention.

The crews would have driven along this road which is deteriorating further due to the amount of rain we've had washing out debris across the street.

Why could this not have been done at the same time as you already had crews working in the area?

Please can these be reviewed ASAP and repaired as necessary.

  • It’s been months since this stretch of road was first reported and virtually nothing has been done to fix it beyond chucking some temporary repairs in. All of these have now failed. There are now significantly worse potholes that are damaging cars and causing drivers to swerve around them to avoid them. Why is it taking so long?

  • According to another response from NNC about this area, it will be fixed in.... July. I doubt much of the road will be left in July. See picture for my prediction. There's going to be a run on rock climbing vehicles for the residents of Kettering.

This road needs a complete resurface as there has already been an accident caused by the amount and size of the potholes along Headlands.

At the very minimum URGENT (within 30 days) temporary repairs/patching is needed as a short term mitigation.

Please can this be dealt with as a PRIORITY as the situation is only getting worse as the road continues to deteriorate.

You as the Council have a responsibility for road safety/repairs and so far, the lack of action could be considered negligence by the Council. Please sort it out.

  • Please can more details be provided by the Council about why this has been categorised as not urgent and therefore can be left until July?

If this road has been inspected it would be very obvious the entire road surface has failed and as soon as we get heavy rain the potholes deteriorate further as more of the road surface is washed away.

There is no way this road can be left in its current state until July as there will be little road left to repair by then. It really needs urgent attention now as there are some huge potholes which will cause damage and mean cars now drive down the middle of the road to avoid them which is creating more risk of accidents.

I strongly urge the priority of these road repairs are re-assessed and some temporary repairs are made ASAP to the worst of the potholes; of which there are many all along Headlands currently.
