There is extreme damage to the grass area outside my property

Reported via mobile in the Verges - Damaged by Vehicles category anonymously at 18:07, Wed 22 November 2023 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5242916.

People who are visiting the Stirrup Cup pub and parking to take their children to school are parking on the grass verge outside my address 52 Woodland Avenue NN156QR. This is an ongoing issue and is made worse in the winter months due to the rain. The water and mud that has settled there is spreading across the path and this causing a danger to people walking along. It is dangerous as these cars block the view when you are trying to reverse out of the drive as well. Could this be looked at asap and something be done to repair the verge but also to prevent the parking Many thanks Sue Gamble

  • Investigation: Completed (Highways to Monitor, Routine Inspection Programme) - Thank you for your report, and many apologies for the delay in updating with our reply. Because verge parking is not illegal in itself, the only means of stopping it would be to introduce parking restrictions which would apply to the road as well. We do not consider using posts or bollards, and have not done for several years. We receive far more requests than we are able to deliver in any given year, and so we had to review what we can offer. We will continue to monitor for safety issues such as deep ruts, as part of our ongoing highway inspections. Please make a new report if you believe there are ruts which should be repaired for safety reasons, but please note that we cannot repair verges simply for reasons of appearance. I am sorry that I cannot offer a more positive reply.
