Pedestrian crossing not safe for pedestrians
Reported in the Traffic light category anonymously at 13:27, Tue 16 September 2014
Sent to Transport For London Street Management 3 minutes later. Council ref: 1847148.
This is a complicated road/tram junction between Kingston Rd, Hartfield Rd, the tram line, Kingswood Rd and Dorset Rd. The pedestrian crossing which is a problem is the one which crosses Kingston Rd, to the west of the tram line. The problem is that westbound vehicles often drive over the crossing while the green man is showing. Sometimes the whole 'green man phase' is used up by vehicles driving over the crossing. The problem may be caused by the fact that the yellow box which covers the tram line doesn't extend to the pedestrian crossing, so traffic goes across the tram line and then queues westbound in between the pedestrian crossing and the lights that control it. Anyway, improving it somehow would be very welcome, because it's near to a number of nursery schools and primary schools. It's not good that it's often not safe to cross here even when the green man is showing. The problem is particularly acute in the rush hour, because a westbound traffic queue forms behind vehicles waiting to turn right from Kingston Rd into Kingswood Rd.
Thanks!

This is still a real problem - this morning I was unable to cross on the green man and had to wait for the next one, due to traffic going through in the green man phase.

It is still a big problem. Last week on the way to nursery with my little one the 'green man' phase was entirely used up by 2 lorries and a car transporter driving on the pedestrian crossing. I've heard nothing back from TfL or anyone else (I'm the original poster on this issue).
