Persistent issues with traffic destroying the verge

Reported via desktop in the Verges - Damaged by Vehicles category anonymously at 09:44, Fri 10 November 2023 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5195723.

Grass verge being destroyed due to lorries reversing into pub carpark. HIghways have been before and said they would move salt bin to prevent this happening but they never did. This has been an ongoing issue for quite sometime ( 7 Years) . Needs resolving soon as possible. Resident did put rocks out to prevent traffic going on it, but these were removed due to complaint.

  • Another vehicle has driven over the same area. Moving the salt bin would solve the problem.

  • Yet another vehicle has run on to the grass while using the pub. How is the investigation going ?. I still think the answer is to move the salt bin along to where the damage is being done.

  • Talking to the driver of the street cleaning vehicle who said that the fire hydrant in the picture was full of soil and needs to be cleaned out incase a building caught fire.

Many apologies for the delay in replying to this report. We have liaised with the team who manage our winter service, including grit bins, and they advise that the current location is the most suitable for the main function, to allow drivers on the through road to apply grit at the bend/junction when necessary. Moving the bin into the side road would mean drivers travelling towards Oundle/Ashton would not be able to see the bin. It would also be a concern that the grit bin is relatively flimsy and so it will break quite easily if hit by the lorry. Therefore we cannot proceed with the previous suggestion to relocate the grit bin - I am sorry this is an apparent change of view but I hope that the comments above help to explain the reason for this.
Thank you for taking the time to reseed the verge.
