The worst road in Bedfordshire ....

Sent to Bedford Borough Council 1 minute later
.... according to a Bedford Borough Council employee three years ago. Obviously they like to keep it that way. Heading towards Shelton, the nearside edge of the road has sunk in several places, ensuring that when passing another vehicle and therefore hugging the edge, your car will 'bottom out' and scrape the road surface. Furthermore, the manholes are set too high, making for a switchback ride or a slalom to avoid them. Halfway up the hill out of Shelton towards the B645 the road appears to have subsided dramatically, a team of road menders slapping a bucket of tarmac on the worst of it uttered dark warnings about the need to 'close the road and sort it out properly'. Unfortunately no one in Bedford takes any notice of them, either. We drive at a sedate speed in an ordinary saloon, not a hot rod, and have hit the deck three times recently. The road is now effectively impossible to drive over safely and we are forced to take a longer route to the B645 to avoid it. Our Parish Council sends in a complaint after every meeting. Why do we have to endure a road in such an advanced state of disrepair?
Still no progress or feedback, this road deteriorates by the day from an already shocking state.

As far as I know, no one has been near us. The road is as bad as ever, and we now have to drive out to the B645 through Yelden to avoid wrecking our car.

No action at all. Nothing. Zilch. I see confusing alterations to a perfectly good roundabout in Bedford, but just 13 miles away and in the same jurisdiction we might as well be in Outer Mongolia.

Yes and no. The raised manhole covers have had extra tarmac put round them and the worst of the sunken stretches have been smoothed, but the contractors have stopped halfway to Shelton (also in BCC's bailiwick), and several sunken stretches remain untouched on that section of the road. Please finish the job!

Yes and no, actually. For some reason, repairs have stopped halfway between Dean and Shelton. Long sections of subsidence on the further stretch of road are untouched. BBC please note, this bit of highway and Shelton are in Bedfordshire, not Northants.!
