Dangerous mud on road between Slinfold and Ockley

Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 20:44, Wed 25 October 2023

Sent to West Sussex County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5138017.

I was travelling along this road last night at around 7.30/8.0:Tuesday 24 th October obviously in the dark ,with another car following me. Suddenly I was aware that I was travelling along the road which I know well which felt as though I was off reading in a muddy field. I was fortunately driving my Nissan X trail which is a 4x4. The thick liquid mud covered the entire road and went on for miles. I did not see a sign warning me of the very dangerous situation I found myself in.Suddenly a huge earth moving truck of some kind seemed to appear out of some woods(?) and then another, from a different direction, and they were not moving slowly. Obviously the car following me did not try to overtake. This followed an 8 hour round trip to Fareham and back for me, so I found this very unnerving. It is dark now but I could send you photos tomorrow of the mess it made of my car. I was wearing white trousers and it was only much later when I was at home and getting ready for bed that I found my trousers had got plastered in the mud in getting out of the car! This situation I have described could have caused a lethal crash. I am an older driver and drive very carefully but I can imagine that if some young boy racer or two had come along an accident could well have been fatal. I am reporting this as I hope someone will be fined heavily for the danger the wet muddy road caused
