Ref: 4905886 TREE PIT
Reported via desktop in the Tree Planting Request category by RUTH SHAW at 19:25, Tue 26 September 2023
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5034880.
26 Sept 2023 I reported the empty tree pit (after your contractors has removed the previous mature tree) which had been left unsafe with missing kerb stones and fungi growing. This space requires a replacement tree. Your contractors have simply (badly) tarmacced over the tree pit and not even repaired/installed proper roadside paving edging slabs. It looks terrible, is unsafe as you could easily sprain an ankle, and now marked as 'dealt with'. Please can you update us on the date we can expect another tree to be planted as our visual amenity has significantly changed.

Could you please let me and my neighbours know when the spring tree planting is in your calendar to begin works. If this tree pit remains empty past this season it will simply turn into one of the many tree pits in Homemead Road. Visual amenity is important to the visual health of the whole road, trees help the environment and maintain the overall appearance of peoples living environment. Many thanks R SHAW

29 March 2024 Please can you provide an update for the planting of a new tree in the tree pit outside 33 Homemead Road. The tarmac has been completely covering the planing hole now and the kerb has not yet been replaced. We are keen to have this completed so the tree can have a good growing season in 2024. I await your response .

Please accept our apologies. The enquiry has been sent back to Highways requesting that the tree pit be reinstated for planting purposes and the curb stone replaced. Our planting season runs from November to March each year and we have sadly missed the opportunity to replace the tree this season. The empty tree pit will be planted next planting season later this year starting in November running through to March of the following year.

1 Oct 2024 The tree pit has now been sucessfully 'made good' and looks lots better. However, the site requires STUMP GRINDING as there is insufficient space for new tree roots to bed in it seems. We have waited 2 seasons now for a new tree and I really really hope you can assure us that a replacement tree is due any day. This is so important for the environment, taking up excess water and for our visual amenity. PLEASE can you send good news as to the replacement date.

Thank you for your enquiry and apologies for the misleading updates. A replacement for this empty tree pit in on Batch 3 of the planting schedule 2024/24 and in hand to be planted by the end of the season. HW's who have recently reconstructed the tree pit have highlighted that the remains of the old stump are in situ. which works are raised for the contractor to grind out the remains so a replacement can be planted.
