Streetlight obscured by tree branches

The tree branches are covering the light from the streetlight and I was wondering if it was possible to cut them back so that the light from the streetlight has a wider throw, please. The tree has been growing around/near the streetlight for many years and has begun to block the light at night for 4 months. This has only become an issue as the evening gets darker earlier now.
