Vegetation overgrowing highway

Reported via Android in the Restricted Visibility / Overgrown / Overhanging category anonymously at 14:56, Thu 14 September 2023

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4994399.

The hedge here is growing over the highway boundary making it dangerous for pedestrians and vehicles alike as it is seriously reducing visibility. To make matters worse they also put their bin on the highway for collection.

  • This privately owned bush on the Brackley road is at least 2 foot over the highway boundary and one foot on to the road. This was flagged before, as it meant pedestrians had to walk in the road at this point and is dangerous, but owner has cut the bush above it which was over hanging into the road (and dumped the branches in the ditch on the opposite side ) but the main obstruction of the hedge has had no attempt to cut this back to highway level, or at very least, level to curb and not out on to road,

  • This was reported in September 2023 and as you can see the problem has not been resovled. This is a narrow road and the overgrown vegetation is on a bend making it extremely dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles alike.

  • Why hasn't the initial enforcement letter been enforced?

Posted anonymously at 14:37, Mon 27 May 2024

  • The enforcement notice on this matter appears to have beeen totally ignored by the home owner. Their overgrown vegetation is approximately 3 ft in front of the Highway boundary and extends into the highway by 1ft. This hedge is left to grow into the Highway, which seeing as there is no pavement for pedestrians and Highways refuses to introduce traffic calming measures on to the Brackley Rd (a notorious rat run from Brackley to Banbury and vilages along the route) one can only assume WNC considers school children's lives and risk of RTCs of minimal priority, What is the point of FixMyStreet if dangerous refusals to comply are not followed up? There will be a fatality on Brackley Rd one day very soon, and when that happens, i will be happy to provide the investigation with years worth of paperwork proving we have made WNC aware of the problems existing here and they have ignored residents pleas to do even the minimum to mitigate safety for pedestrians on this road.
