Traffic lights are timed and taking far too long between change

The tail back is horrendous at these lights. No need for three way lights. We had lights here for 6 months and they have only just gone and now we have more. They need to be sensored not timed. I sat for ages at 5am waiting for them to change despite no traffic on the road
