Cycle path Pavement overgrown with hedges and weeds

Reported via mobile anonymously at 10:40, Thu 20 July 2023

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4807156.

Cycle path on south side of A4 / bath road is dangerously overgrown with hedges and weeds. This issue was closed incorrectly last week. The person(s) who cut it back only did a small stretch near the gym/car garage units. the whole path needs to be cut back and the ground cleared to the original width of the path. It is still dangerously narrow for pedestrians and cyclists. This issue applies from the border with BANES to the park and ride entrance. This is the same issue previously closed and the same as this time last year. Does BCC actually want people to walk and cycle? not by the amount of action takes to keep the paths clear and safe.

  • Still not cleared. Does BCC actually want people to cycle into bristol, or should we just use the P&R lane and cause a slow-moving roadblock for other road users?

  • Cycled this route on Sunday 1st Oct the path is dangerously overgrown too narrow in places to get one cycle through without being stung by nettles 2 cycles cannot pass. You’re penalising drivers to encourage cycling yet do nothing to facilitate it! Will report separately that also a large gully grating missing so hazard for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians!

  • This path is still not fixed. This route is used frequently by cyclists and pedestrians and the shared path is now so overgrown it is becoming unusable. Please bear in mind it is regularly used by school kids given there are large secondary schools nearby and St Brendan's Sixth form. Visibility for motorists crossing the path to get into/out of the allotments and out of the old garden centre site is impeded.

  • This is now a severe hazard, barely enough room to squueze through on a bike next to a busy bus lane. Someone is going to fall off in front of a bus if this is not sorted out.

  • This problem has still not been fixed - the path is now only 0.5m wide due to undergrowth at some points. The whole stretch from the exit to Wyevale Garden Centre to the Park and Ride exit needs to be urgently trimmed back. This is supposed to be a 2 way shared path and there is barely sufficient room to get one bike on the path. This issue is exacerbated by the 40mph limit and the fact that buses pass by at 40mph now extremely close to cyclists and pedestrians using the path

  • This issue is still not fixed. With the weather getting worse the shared path is full of debris, nettles, overhanging branches. I'm assuming whoever reads these messages probably dislikes cyclists, but poor infrastructure like this means people are not using the path as it is so unsafe. This just adds to the traffic. Come on let's get this sorted. It's cutting back some overgrowth, it's half a day at best basic maintenance. Then people can be safe on this path.

  • BCC please can this be sorted! You want to spend millions on new cycle routes and bus lanes through Brislington but you can’t even keep the existing path cleared of weeds. I’d love some council members to cycle along this route on a dark morning with Buses almost clipping your shoulder because the path is so narrow!

  • Absolutely appalling, this issue is getting worse every day, it's very hard for us cyclists to use this shared path at all now. Fit it now BCC, clear the overgrowth.
