New island causing safety hazard
Reported via desktop in the Obstruction to Highway category anonymously at 08:48, Mon 10 July 2023 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4767859.
Why has this island been placed here? What purpose is it serving? It is now an added hazard to this particular section of road. I cycle up Court Road and turn right into The Highway several times a week and this island is a huge obstacle. It restricts me from moving across into the centre section of the road until I'm literally at the junction at which point I have to stop at the side of the road and look back to check for traffic coming up the hill before I can cut across into the now very limited centre section to turn right. That centre section is now very short with space for only a couple of cars so any more than that that want to turn into The Highway will now have to block the traffic until they can enter the centre section, and how do I enter it on my bike when it's full? I have to wait at the side of the road with fast moving traffic passing me very close as they are now forced nearer to the side of the road due to the island. The road marking arrows are also guiding traffic wanting to turn right straight into the island?? The island needs to be removed before it causes an accident.

I wish to confirm all details of the original report. Note how the arrows on the road guide you straight into the new Island. (Photo 2)
The gap between the Island and any passing traffic is too limited to allow a car to safely pass on the inside of a bicycle turning right. (Photo 1) Likewise a car will be stuck behind a bicycle as it rides along Court road past the complete section of new islands causing unnecessary and potentially dangerous congestion.
The gap after the new Island is so short that the car in photo 3 hasn’t had sufficient space to get into the central reservation and so is blocking the main south bound carriageway of Court Road. As soon as there are more than 2 cars trying to turn right into Highway then Court Rd is totally blocked. This happens frequently during the morning rush hour.

Why hasn't this purposeless obstacle been removed yet? I nearly got hit in the rear of my car queuing to turn right into The Highway again.

This ridiculous island needs to be removed now! For the third time I have almost had the rear of my car hit whilst behind four cars waiting to turn right into The Highway. I see many have complained so why the delay?

The island will not be removed at the present time. There is adequate space to pull in to the right hand turn lane.

Myself and I'm sure many others will disagree with your decision. During busy times of traffic there is not safe room for those turning right into The Highway. Three times so far my car has nearly been hit in the rear because I had no choice in blocking the main thoroughfare behind a row of vehicles queueing to turn. Not only that, the island serves no purpose anyway
