Path safety

Reported via desktop in the Footways and Pavement damage category anonymously at 13:23, Sat 1 July 2023

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4738357.

Can something be done to prevent oversized cycles from using this stretch of shared path? It is very narrow & bound by high walls, so there is no refuge for pedestrians or oncoming cyclists when these huge cargo-bikes & articulated cycles come thundering down the hill. The electric ones are, in essence, motor vehicles & attain quite frightening speeds downhill. Perhaps a bollard or two would keep us safe & the oversized vehicles could use the flatter, wider alternative cycle route, 50 yards to the north?

  • The "alternative route" you suggest is just as dangerous because cycles still race along at speed, cutting the corners / the junction in to the path of pedestrians, shouting/ cursing ... then racing straight out on to the Witan Way crossing regardless that the lights are changing ... Last Saturday there was an entire cycling peleton of more than a dozen pedalling at speed while shouting at people to get out of their way.
