Overgrown tree - health and safety concerns

Sent to Stockport Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4728877.
My name is Mandy Brereton and I’m a Hazel Grove resident residing at 61 Stokesay Road.
I’m contacting you for some advice on a tree at the back of our garden (not our property) which is an extremely large Ash Tree.
The tree itself blocks so much light from our garden which in itself is as you can imagine is annoying but I also have health and safety concerns in relation to how stable the tree is and how much bird faeces we have to contend with. In windy weather the tree really concerns me especially as my daughter uses the garden for playing football no matter the weather!!
We have tried to knock on the doors of those houses behind us whom we thought the tree belonged to but nobody will claim the tree as theirs. I presume the tree was there when the houses were built.
Each year the tree obviously gets bigger and as I say I just don’t know where to go from here. Financially it’s a huge cost and if the tree isn’t on our property It’s very concerning that we would need to somehow find the money to cut it back or remove.
I’m just really hoping there is something the council could do to help us as I am getting really concerned in the autumn/winters just how safe the tree is.
