Dead tree in Leesons Hill

Reported via desktop in the Tree Requires Pruning category anonymously at 22:48, Fri 23 June 2023

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4710332.

There is a huge dead tree on a bank in Leesons Hill to the left of the junction with Sunnyfield Road. If the tree or any part of it fell it would be a serious danger to traffic and pedestrians and could also damage the back fences of the houses in Clarendon Way.

  • This tall, dead tree in Leesons Hill was reported in June and Bromley Council was working to resolve the issue on 25 August. It is now October. Any news as to when the issue is likely to be resolved? I reported the dangers so that my conscience would be clear should the tree cause a serious accident. The responsibility is now with Bromley Council.

  • Thank you for your comments. The completion of the trees removal has been chased up with the contractor who will undertake it as a priority.

  • Appropriate action has been taken to resolve the issue.

  • The issue has not been fixed as the huge dead tree I reported is still dead and still standing. As I have mentioned before, if the tree or any part of it should fall on passing traffic or pedestrians the responsibility now stands solely with Bromley Council as it has been informed of the situation.

  • My apologies, the enquiry appears to have been closed down in error. The location of the tree makes access particularly difficult with MEWP required and ideally access from residents garden if possible. The works have been chased up with the contractor who will undertake them as soon as possible.

  • Thank you for your email informing me that work is now "In progress". The work was shown as "In Progress" on 23.06.23; as "Fixed" (it was not) on 25.10.23; as "In Progress" on 03.11.23; and again I am told today, 09.08.24, that it is "In Progress". Could it possibly be that the work is too difficult for your contractors? It is a rather large, dead tree, possibly an oak, on a bank and overhanging Leesons Hill.

  • Thank you for your comments and apologies for the delays. The contractor has been chased up again and will prioritise the completion of the works.

Posted by Bromley Council at 13:31, Friday 23 August 2024

  • Thank you for your enquiry. The dead tree has been felled to a high stump. Separately the team undertaking works is due to return to site to clear debris from the fell which has fallen into the residents garden.

Posted by Bromley Council at 10:44, Monday 14 October 2024

  • Originally reported on 23.06.23. Further to the dead tree 'being made safe' in October 2024, the debris has not been removed from the tree to its right, as can be seen in the attached photo. One branch is lodged in this second tree (the cut end can be seen sticking out) and another dead branch is hanging straight down and swinging in the high winds today. If either of these large, cut branches drop out of the tree they will no doubt land in the road (Leesons Hill), hopefully not on a passing vehicle. We will be avoiding Leesons Hill but others won't realise the danger.
