Faint road markings
Reported via mobile in the Road Markings - Worn/Faded category anonymously at 20:44, Thu 22 June 2023 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4706205.
Road markings are very faint - this is from google street view and is much worse now.
On multiple occasions over the last year, I've had to swerve into another lane because others think they're following their lane but the markings are not easy to see. Others have also had to swerve to avoid

I find that this is urgent. You cannot see where to go in the dark. Please change the priority of this to urgent. There will be an accident. Unless you know where to go, you are dangerous. People swerving to get in the right lane, especially when it is dark.

Investigation: Completed (Highways to Monitor, Routine Inspection Programme), Defect Repair: Not Started - Thank you for your enquiry, the defect has been inspected and doesn’t currently meet the councils’ criteria as an urgent safety defect. We will however raise a pre-emptive defect; this means we aim to carry out these repairs before they become safety defects requiring an urgent response. We plan to undertake this work while carrying out other suitable maintenance in the local vicinity. We will continue to monitor the condition their condition as part of our routine highway inspection schedule. If you notice the defect has worsened, then please inform us via an update to your existing enquiry.

So based on your responce when people in the middle lane, cut off/ crash into people in the right lane because there are no visible lines when entering the roundabout; as has happened to multiple people - Northampton highways is prepared to take responsibility for the legal remifications to poor road markings i presume? The middle lane filters to the left, and the right filters to the middle but no signage or markings eludes to this constitutes a high risk of an accident, and your investigator is either incorrect or incompetant. everyone should not this; and if an accident occurs; take legal action against the council for not maintaining the road safely or correctly

So when two cars are going 40mph, those cars or even bikes possibly colliding due to lines being extremely faint and not visible in some weather conditions, isn’t a safety issue?
This has worsened since I first reported almost a year ago and appreciate funding is low but this is not safe. The only solution for me at the moment is to avoid lane 2

It’s not clear enough which Lane you need to be in when entering the roundabout and where this lane goes further down without markings

I had a very near miss today, as a car in the wrong lane almost swerved into my car. What are you waiting for? Does someone need to die before you fix this???

I reported this June 2023 and still hasn't been sorted...

Why do the timescales keep moving? Looks like a first report on this tread was June 2023. Many reports of near misses and accidents waiting to happen. Please just put the lines. it can't be that hard to action.

I have had so many issues with this roundabout. The anxiety of using this road is ridiculous, you never know who is where, what they are going to do until someone tries to drive into you. Ridiculous it’s been on this long.

I'd just like to point out I first reported this 877 days ago and we are still waiting on this to sorted, even after the defects were found and multiple complete dates given😂

9/11/23 I went down there and took photos - they said it will be repaired in 12 months. They lied, they always lie.

I have been told by my 'wonderful' council that this is to be sorted on 18th November..........I wonder if this is another lie?

Think it’s about time that safety issues such as these were fixed seriously quickly before there are more accidents. The roads must be inspected at night on defects such as markings, far more dangerous at night and also in bad weather. They need REPAINTING.
There really isn’t an acceptable answer other than to just do it.

I use this roundabout on a daily basis, and there is a near miss incident almost every day. I first reported more than 2 years ago. What is it going to take for the Council to fix this? Does someone need to die before they do?? They are leaving themselves open to a lawsuit if someone dies because of the Council's negligence. SORT IT OUT

Even an MP that I wrote to approached the council and got a negative answer. I just don't get why they won't get it rectified instead of trying to avoud it. Maybe the national press need to publish how bad our local council really is, and how they hide away, and just don't care. It's shocking. They have repeatedly lied to me. Why is this not a priority????? Someone is going to get seriously hurt or die as a result of their incompetence...........

Big question is…..did they fill the potholes at the same time and same location….
We should start a “RoadWatch” and let’s get the best roads in the UK…. We deserve them and after all the Reform led Council said they would fix everything and lower the Council Tax bills at the same time….impressive if they do it!
