Dog fouling and loose dogs.

Reported in the Dog fouling category anonymously at 10:14, Mon 2 March 2009

Sent to Adur District Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 46820.

Owners of 2 dogs at 75 Orchard Avenue, Lancing are consistently allowing their dogs out off the lead and allowing them to foul the grass verge or path without clearing up after them. This has been happening for a long time. (at least 18 months or more)Another witness told me the dogs are regularly let out loose onto the street, at approx 6am,during which they often use the verge as a toilet before being let back in again. One dog is a Rotweiller bitch named Roxy, the other a mongrel/pit bull type dog named Alfie. I do not know the owner's names.

  • I hope you received my follow- up email to the first one 4 wks ago, which said that the address should read No.77 Orchard Ave, no 75 (error)The problem appears to be WORSE, if anything. Visitors to my home have trodden in it, and when my daughter visits, she will not walk on that part of the verge any more. Hard to tell if it is the same owners still, but outside no's 69/71 Orchard Avenue, Lancing, there is a number of dog faeces, all within a few feet of an anti-fouling notice. I hav'nt witnessed whether it is the same dog owner responsible, but it may be deliberatlely placed near the sign in defiance. Whoever it is, this is disgusting and a public health hazard, not to mention anti-social. I like dogs, but there's no excuse for it. I've recently mentioned this on another website, as did'nt hear from yours for a while. thanks.

  • The problem appears to have been fixed. I presume they've received a letter. Occasionally the 2 dogs mentioned are seen walked on a lead now, but it's highly likely they're simply leaving the mess somewhere else. As mentioned before, please amend the address to 77 Orchard Avenue (though it's possible No 75 was responsible for some of it)

  • The problem with the verge appears to be resolved. However, on the track which runs along the back of the terraced houses here, there has been dog fouling almost outside my back gate (outside the back of no.73) I shook chilli powder there to discourage the dogs, and for now it has stopped. Don't know who blame for that one, could be same people, or maybe not. This complaint may look a bit over the top and trivial, but at the end of the day, dog fouling is anti-social and a health hazard.

  • Can you please amend the address of the dog owners to 77 Orchard Avenue. I did mention previously that No 75 was quoted by mistake (although I believe there is a dog there too) The problem looked to have been resolved, as the dog owner has been seen picking up after their dog(s) Some more mess has appeared on the verge outside my house within the last couple of days, but not sure who's responsible. Again, it sometimes appears deliberate as it is right next to an anti-fouling sign. That's all I can tell you for now. Thanks for your help.

  • Over the last 3 years, the owners at no. 77 have continued to use the verge outside my home (71 orchard ave.) for the same two dogs to relieve themselves. Apparently too idle to take them for a proper walk. It's obvious the dogs have been conditioned to treat the spot as a permitted area. At first after apparently being warned from elsewhere they picked it up, but if it appeared to them I'd been away for a couple of days, it was left. These days sometimes it's left, sometimes it's picked up. I've since had heated discussions with the owner who does not seem to care.I said "why is it always here?" He replied "Why not?" His son was rude to me and once commented that the smaller dog would be sent to foul on my garden. I never see them on a lead and they both - especially the brown and white staffy type, have a habit of running up to people and being a nuisance, esp if there's a shopping bag etc. Not seen them in the last few weeks so I don't know if another person has complained but they tend to let them out when they think no one is looking. If it continues you are more than welcome to set up cameras on the front of my property. They need the proverbial "kick up the a**e
