2 potholes on Ham Road, both immediately north of Chester Avenue

Reported via desktop in the Potholes category anonymously at 12:24, Tue 6 June 2023

Sent to West Sussex County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4638025.

There are 2 potholes, one on the north corner of Chester Avenue, and another a few meters north outside 135 Ham Road. They have been there for 6 months or more. These potholes cause severe shaking to occur to the nearby houses whenever a large vehicle, especially lorries, drive over them. Each lorry has 4 or 5 sets of wheels so each lorry causes an accumulation of heavy vibration that causes properties to violently shudder. As the potholes get worse, so does the shaking of the houses. This is frequent and at all times of day and night during the week. This is no doubt bad for vehicles, but what this does not take into account is the significant effect it has on the nearby houses and residents mental health. When driven over by heavy vehicles these potholes cause the houses to very violently shake. There are already cracks in plasterwork throughout, and continual shaking to this degree will result in structual damage, if it hasn't already, and therefore put the safety of residents at risk, not to mention significant repair costs which the Council should be responsible for. In addition, as the HGVs also travel at night, this wakes sleeping residents continually, causing distress and anxiety. I'd ask that you consider these effects on the people who live on this road, rather than just the limited affect it has on vehicles. Thanks.
