Tree outside 17 Springfield overhanging property and damaging kerbstones

Reported via desktop in the Tree Requires Pruning category anonymously at 16:06, Tuesday 30 May 2023 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4611604.

The tree in question has grown significantly in recent years, and despite a small prune in 2021 is now spreading a long way towards the properties. The roots have pushed all the kerbstones out of alignment and are lifting the concrete dropped kerb slab for No.17. Drain problems 18 months ago were attributed to roots in the drains, and we are concerned about the spread of the roots towards foundations. The canopy of the tree is dropping large amounts of extremely sticky sap which is covering nearby properties and is damaging to car paintwork, and the canopy is also now obstructing the streetlight making for a dark unsafe area of the road. The tree is lopsided after a lorry hit a lower branch on the roadside and needs to be cut back significantly, especially on the property side of the tree before further damage occurs.

  • Whilst one of the broken kerbstones has been replaced, there are several others missing or pushed out of place, and the main issue has yet to be resolved - a significant cutback of the tree on all sides. Without this none of the other issues (root damage, reduced light from streetlights, damage to property from sap etc. from the canopy) will be fixed, and the kerbstone issues will reoccur, as they already have.
